Seems like most of the 'Once great brands' are having some trouble. Ritek, Optodisc, TY, Prodisc (at least from this board). The only really realiable media has been Maxell. Are there any other truly reliable media besides that?

Well, there's been no decline in the actual Maxell-manufactured discs as far as I know. It's fairly easy to avoid Maxell-branded RitekG04 anyhow, they're the only Maxell -Rs that say made in Taiwan. Still most of the Maxell -R media I see is made in Japan, so I don't know if one can say "increasing use".

I've used more PRODISC than I care to discuss in the past year. It's at least a 4-digit figure. Few problems, if any. Same for MCC ones.
MCC is great. TDK is great. Both easy to find.
MXLRG0x media is fairly flawless, don't confuse MXLRG0x media ID with Maxell brand name (which can be many things, including TY and RITEK).
MXLRG02 media is yellow top, NO HUB SERIALS. TYG01 media is yellow top WITH HUB SERIALS. Both are "Made In Japan". Ritek is the "Made In Taiwan" or unmarked (likely, unconfirmed)). I mostly see 70/30, the more being Japan.
TY media leaves burn rings (usually bad spots) in my burners. Not happy here. Higher coaster rate. But I know it's OVERALL good media.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I think about 99% of the questions on this forum ask the same thing !
Personally, I'm getting really pissed off with the amount of Ritek coasters "pixellating at the end'ers" that I'm getting lately. Also, can't figure out why they appear ok when checked out on my JVC Nv33 standalone, but when I give them to a friend, they pixelate on their equipment. Damn frustrating and annoying. Have tried 50 or so unmarked/printables JVC/TTG01's which so far appear to be ok. Fingers crossed.
Merry Christmas guys. -
TY if anything, I believe, is actually getting even better in quality, not unreliable....
The T02 +R 8x's are burning fantastically at 16x, and at one point, about 1/4 would be a coaster at 16x.. I've gone through entire spindles now with no coasters.
Also..."Reliable" media really depends a lot on you. The burner you use, the firmware, the method for authoring/duplicating, and what program you use to burn it all can have significant effects on how well media turns out. Also burn speed, and active programs on your PC etc..

I'v been using Ritek(go4 an go5) for quiet a while now and can not for the life of me understand the bashing that they seem to get on this forum. I burn upto 50 disk every week on back ups and storage and todate have not had a single coster or any of the disk become unstable. On the other hand I have had nothing but trouble with lazer and media trak(a rebaged lazer) from day one using these disk I had 20 coster out of ever 100 not good in anyones language. My suplier just told to burn at 2x with the lazer and media trak and all will be fine(ever thou they are marked as 4x) , but still no happy results here where they are concerned, so until anyone I personaly have any problems with the ritek i'll stick with them.

If TY are so good how come the BenQ made by TY get bad reviews ?
Maxell is my media of choice. -
If they are MXLRG01, or 02, they are great, but TY seems to have the best history
