Now that I've got this DVD-SVCD authoring caper sorted, the next thing I'm looking for is a simple but accurate bitrate calculator for DVD. Can anyone please recommend a nice simple bitrate calculator that will output necessary audio and video bitrates to fill a DVD5 disc given a runtime with no menus/still pictures/multiple audio stream/switchable subtitles etc?

Is this a practical thing to be asking for? Does such a bitrate calulator exist?

Here is a direct link to the VIDEOHELP bitrate calculator:

This is the one I use all the time although when I use it I like to up the 25MB in overhead to 75MB to 100MB this way I don't get TOO CLOSE to filling the DVD when I get to the authoring stage.

By doing tht I usually end up in the 4250MB to 4350MB range when it is all said and done.

I use that one religiously, but normally subtract 100 from the bitrate it tells me to allow for simple menus. If in the absolute worst-case scenario I go over, DVDShrink can pull the size down that little bit for me with no noticable effect on the quality. That said, I ALWAYS try to hit the correct size when encoding, and only use DVDShrink if I fooked up somewhere.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I checked those available in the tools section and noticed that DVTools is listed as having a bitrate calculator built in. I already have that installed, so I've used that one for the disc I'm encoding now. Anyone got any experience or comments on the accuracy or suitability of the DVTools' calculator?

I swear these DVD burners are the most fun you can have with your clothes on!! Anyone disagree with that evaluation?

Capmaster has a blow up sheep that would disagree.

Oh wait ... I guess that requires no clothes.

Maybe you are right after all!
