Has anyone else received a letter stating that Blockbuster will be eliminating all late fees as of Jan. 1st? It's signed from the Chairman & CEO & according to the letter, applies to ANY video, dvd or game rental! So, in other words, it looks like you can keep them out as long as you want and not pay another cent! Kinda defeats the reason for the Moviepass, though, doesn't it?

I saw this on CNN 3 days ago,I think it said if they were 7 days late you had to buy the movie or the Game..I tried it here in Canada..NOPe..Only in the US...LOL...I owe 45 Dollars on one film but still bought the movie at 25$ told them i lost it.

They're eliminating late fees for movies less than 7 days late. If it's a week or more they force you to buy the movie. I heard that some franchises in canada will only implement these rules later in the year around July.

You can still take the movie back and get refunded. And you only have to pay $1.50 US! Beats the shit even out of one day's late fees as things are currently.

For anyone interested, some related information on this at http://www.hackingnetflix.com/netflix/2004/12/source_blockbus.html and http://www.hackingnetflix.com/netflix/2004/12/more_info_about.html

The concept of a late fee is really unnecessary, but this solution is utterly ridiculous. The system should simply be that if you rent for one day and take it back after three, you owe them for the two they could have rented it out to someone else. That's what they have done here in Australia since the advent of the video rental concept, and nobody disputes it or argues with it.
Of course, there are some persistent pests under this model, but all but the most hardcore ones wise up when you put up a notice stating that late fees in excess of a certain amount or over a certain time late will be turned over to a debt collection agency."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..."
