  1. I plan on proposing to my fiance' on New Years Eve and need some help on how to put this video together...
We will be with friends and I want it to go like this..

With friends we will begin to watch a "movie" everyone will think this is just a regular movie, I want the movie to begin with a proposal scene from a movie still yet to be found, so after I find this part, I want to extract this on to my "movie" and that part to give a skipping effect so that it repeats a few times and then have this fade into text that I want to have scroll on the screen. I thought this could be either a DVD with part movie and part text or a VCD that would have the video portion added once converted to MPG. Please any ideas since I only have 2 weeks.

I have a DVD burner, Nero 6.3, Shrink, Decrypter, DVD2One, Photodex Proshow 2, Some video authoring software yet unused(Ulead dvd workshop, Sony Vegas)

I don't have any technical advice I can give you but I will say that is a darn clever way to pop the question. Hope someone will be able to help. Good Luck to you!

    Keep it simple !

decrypt the scenes & edit vob with videoredo (trial) , save as mpeg & its easy to use.

I'd look at memoriestotv (with the mpeg2 plugin about $60ish), import start of movie, throw a few photos in of the two of you, add your text as slides (which you can easily scroll) & throw in your proposal mpeg.

    Then push "create dvd"

I notice proshow gold has the mgeg import ability (maybe do all of the above with an upgrade to gold?) Since you know what you are doing with that program.

  5. This is how I would do it I could use DVD recorder or video capture card. Reason is that if you try to do iton the PC ripping a DVD and find another DVD with the Proposal suprise video the MPEG 2 will not be the same and you will have problems editting the video. The movie you record and the Proposal suprise video will have the same MPEG 2 setting with a DVD reocorder or a capture card. Try www.womble.com for MPEG 2 editting.

If you do not have a capture card or DVD recorder you can still get away with it but it will need to be a separate files you will not be able to edit as the MPEG 2 will not have a good chance of having the same MPEG 2 settings. The use a authorizing software I like TMPG or ulead software.

Umm, I hate to be picky but if she's your financé then I'm afraid you've already proposed to her (and she accepted).

Use DVDDecrypter to rip the chosen proposal scene to a VOB file.

Use something like Slide Show Movie Maker for any pictures you want in the clip - Export to AVI ready for encoding.

Do the rolling titles in Bluff Titler (awesome little app!) - Export to AVI ready for encoding.

Encode the two AVIs the to the relevant MPEG...

Load the proposal clip, pictures and rolling titles into TMPGEnc DVD Author (fully functioning trial for 30 days) - this accepts VOBs as well as compliant MPEGs, and will take numerous source files but output as one authored finished article.

You can load the proposal scene numerous times and set different clip lengths to get the "skipping" effect.

Author, burn and bloody good luck!!!

Final word of advice - start now coz it sounds like you're new to this and it's never as quick and easy as you thought it'd be...

  10. Having been married 12 years I do have some advice. Instead of the "proposal movie" you plan to be watching then editing in your proposal, get together with the guys and watch football and edit in some beer and pizza. Follow one of the many beer/pizza guides.

tmh is a very wise man. Take his advice. Then (after football) visit the gentlemen's club nearest you.
