I've been having some problems when backing up my VHS tapes with my Philips DVDR75 Recorder....as the tape plays, the picture appears to gradually get brighter and brighter....If I stop the tape, and then restart it, it looks good again.......any help would be greatly appreciated

Used to have a DVDR75 myself. The only time I experienced variations in brightness like you describe was when the VHS tape was protected with Macrovision. If you're not already using one and the tape is a commercial one, try using a "video-stabiliser" or Macrovision remover.

If you're still watching this post, I resolved that with a video amplifer that allows me to boost the color.

i had the same problem with my dvdr75 and I was using home recorded vhs tapes, of my personal footage.
no macrovision.
I found the dvdr75 useless for transferring vhs tapes.
