  1. Alright, here is my problem. I use my Panasonic E-50 to record my homes videos on vhs to dvd ram disks. I then extract the video from the ram disk onto my PC using TMPGEnc DVD Author. Then I cut out what I don't want and create my chapters and menus, and finally I make a perfectly working DVD. That worked for a long time but recently TMPGEnc won't pick up the video on my DVD rams now. I keep getting a fatal error saying that the video is made of different formats and I can't get my videos into my PC. I'm using the same procedure as I've always been but now it doesn't work anymore.
    My questions are:
Does anyone else use this procedure?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there another way to extract the mpeg2 video from a dvd ram recorded on a set top player into your PC?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. This is not quite what you want but I have had some luck getting the RAM disc files extracted to an ISO image with DVDdecrypter and then burning it to a DVD-R. You should be able to "burn" it to a HD with DVDdecrypter or at least to a RW and then transfer to a hard drive. Good luck.

ADDED: Sorry, I just realized your problem is not related to getting the files into your PC ( I don't use yor program).
Still a few bugs in the system...

  3. I do the exact same thing you do, converting home videos to DVD from my E30 and use TDA to author and burn the results. My solution, turn over Variable bit rate recording. When you have this on, the bit rate/resultion fluctuates so that it fits on a dvdram. The resolution can go from 720x480 -> 352x240 (from what I have read/heard). Stick to CBR and you shouldnt have this problem.

  4. try searching for the panasonic, been answered a few times.

Change the recording method from AUTO to FIXED, this should make it consistently the same size.

  6. Hi

I dont know if this thread will be picked up again, but heres a try. A question, did u guys Finalise the discs before transferring to PC? Can u do this before the disc is finalised (I want to salvage discs recorded half way on the panny, that could not be finalised due to errors).

I tried using isobuster to extract the data, and managed to get a bunch of .tao files, but they only plays a few seconds. I know that all the material is intact in the file, but just cant get them to work on authoring software

    Help much appreciated

@chloh: If you record on a DVD-RAM you don't need to finalize them. If you don't use WIN-XP you will probably need to have a DVD-RAM-driver to be able to read UDF-2.0-formatted DVD-RAMs like the Panny recorders are producing. I never had problems other than that already discussed in this thread to read DVD-RAM produced by my E-30 in a LG-DVD-ROM-drive.

  8. You will get that message if some you try and import PCM and AC3 into the same track , you need to start a different track.

I have always just copied and pasted the .VRO from the ram disc to the HD before opening it in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Don't know if that would help.

  10. Hi

OK, I didnt know about RAM format because I am using Win2000 and a drive that does not read RAM. I thought it would be the same process as with DVD-R.

When I put a panny unfinalised DVDR into the PC it does not read. However I can use isobuster to extract the data, and it comes out as .tao files, one per track and lots of smaller unknown ones besides that.

I tried using TMPGENC DVDAuthor to compile the video bits back to a DVD and it worked, except each clip only played for a few seconds, some a minute.

I am still trying to find out how to get around this. The reason why I am doing this is to rescue my DVDRs that were ruined when a dubbing session crashed or the disc would not finalise.

At least I can verify all my videos are still in those .tao files, I just dunno how I can put them back into a DVD.

    Cheers
