  1. I've always used TMPGEnc for creating VCDs and SVCDs, but when faced with the time it takes to create DVD MPG2 files I switched to Mainconcept. It takes half the time and the quality seems to be basically the same but... My files ALWAYS end up with audio/video out of sync.

I've been told to check what's the frame rate of the original DivX/Xvid and keep it the same (original DivX 25fps - DVD mpg 25fps) to avoid that. Well, it never helped, I tried both ways - keeping the original frame rate, changing it to NTSC - 29,97fps. I always end up with an out of sync file.

TMPGEnc does the job with no problems, but it sometimes takes 16 hours to do it !! That's way too much...

Anyone with any experience on this?

    Thanks!

16 hours? Which filters and settings are you applying that makes it take that long?

For 2-pass encoding and no filters , fast encoding method choice and with change of scene detection , TMPGenc needs about 3 times the original avi for example 2 hrs avi=6-6.5 hrs encoding time to mpeg

And the speed of the processor doesn't come into it???????

Such generalisations are dangerous and ill-informed. Those figures may be true on your 1.6Gig PC, but many are faster.

@correioelet2002, sorry, can't really help with mainconcept, just trying to put Phoebos right. If your PC specs are correct (PIII 450), have you thought about upgrading?

Give some more details as to what your source material is ( a screen shot from G-Spot is useful here) and what your settings are in mainconcept and perhaps someone will be able to pint you in the right direction.

  5. Yeah, well TMPGEnc took about 12hrs to encode a 2 and a half hr XviD to DVD (using the DND NTSC template, nothing more nothing less).

I just found out that mainconcept is creating out-of-sync mpgs when outputting to PAL, regardless of what type of file I'm inputting (either PAL or NTSC sources).

I guess I'll always output to NTSC now and get rid of the problem, but it's quite strange anyway, cause I've used TMPGEnc for PAL files before with no problem at all.
