  1. Hi. Amazon was selling a 100 pack of Velocity DVD-Rs that people were reporting as MCC003s. I purchased one, but it was backordered. I finally received my order and when I checked the media code it showed OPTODISCR008. I checked the media forum and there was no mention of OPTODISCR008. They only had reviews for OPTODISCR004 and Lower. Can anyone tell me if they have ever used they types of media and how the quality is? Thanks.

    It's +R media

  5. I bought some of this +r media at computer fair this past weekend. 8x and complete junk! Burned at 2.4, 4 or 8x and all junk. Burning with Benq 1620 burner. Hope you have better luck as I now have some inkjet printable coasters. I could not resist buying some inkjet +r's since all I had were -r's. Junk for me...

  6. Run from these. Very fast. If you can take them back, do so.

No OPTODISCR008 is DVD-R, OPTODISCOR8 is DVD+R. From what I've read Optodisc has previously used fake TYG02 code for its 8x DVD-R but has obviously started using its own code now too.

And yes Optodisc is quite bad media.

I would return them. OptodiscR004 is the worst media I have ever used and it can't touch MCC quality. Your burner and results may vary of course.

  9. I have a LiteOn SOHW 812s. I'm here to tell you everyone here is correct. Don't walk away from the Opto disks...RUN from them. They are worthless. I have not been able to get a single one (that SAYS it burns at 8x) to burn anything longer than 1:30 in length, and that is at 2X. Opto disks are garbage. The most reliable 8x DVD-R media I've found are the Fuji 8X DVD-R. Here's where I finally found them:

I don't normally plug stuff, but after all the anguish of thinking it was my drive, my firmware, my computer... Then I tried these as recommended by another board and poof! no more problems.

BTW, they are about 52cents each with free shipping. Not bad.

In the past Optodisc DVD-R media was fine, about same quality as Ritek. The DVD+R has always been pathetic.

Still not something I'd use on purpose.

  11. Optodisc DVD-R is the worst garbage I've ever used, never again.

  12. These are actually manufactured as plastic coasters which some genius decided to sell off as dvd media. If you actually burn anything to them successfully consider it an act of god.

We tried Optodisc and quickly moved on. The spindle started out fine, but we ended up with 20 or so coasters by the time we had finished it up ....on the Panny standalone, My Panny PC writer at the time choked on it.

I'd take it one step further and say avoid all discs unless made in Japan, USA, or Europe.

And who let Capmaster out of Off Topic anyway?

You don't see too many discs made in the USA or Europe though.

And for your information, Cap is let loose everday from 9:00-9:15 to graze, before returning to the safe pasture of OT.

OPTODISCOR8, 8x DVD+R, burnt at 12x in a Benq 1620. Looks pretty good to me.

  18. I have had good results with my Benq 1620 and my NEC 3500 with the Optodisc +R.

    @henry_nettles
There is no benq firmware that burns that media at 12x.
