As usual, only upgrade if your system is fragged or you're doing a clean OS install.

I usually upgrade as they come out and haven't had any problems. That being said, let us not forget the prime directive:
Individual results may vary!
and it's corollary:
If it ain't broke don't fix it! -
I invariably find after installing the drivers that I get the folder I installed them into popping up whenever my system starts up. Very annoying.
I've emailed them repeatedly, asking what is going on.
As a result, I am leery of installing anything from ATI, even though the graphics card performs well."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
How can anyone say only install a new video driver if your system is dead or you are doing an o/s reinstall. Imho there are a lot of other good reasons to do a driver update.
TidyThe real answer lies in completely understanding the question! -
Before upgrading, install Nasty File Remover - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3233
Close the Nvidia desktop manager app that is in your system tray (usually).
Run Nasty File Remover twice through to remove all traces of the old drivers. Then, and only then, not a moment sooner, can you install the new video drivers, followed by a hearty reboot. -
Here's some more info on this driver release: Scroll down past mid-page and you'll see 2 articles. There are also release notes on the ATI site. If you're really concerned about the upgrade, this is the best place to look in order to determine if it may be right for you...

The point is computers are a lot more complex than a simple one line answer!! I have yet to see any answer on any subject that works in 100% of cases. The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!
