I would like to get my girlfriend a region free (code free) DVD player for Christmas. She is a foreign language teacher and she wants to be able to watch North American and German DVDs on the same player.
Here is the catch.
She would also like to be able to copy certain German DVDs to a VHS tape to show in class on the school's VCR. The problem is the copyright protection issue that may make it hard to copy, i.e. macrovision.
What is the best way, if possible, to make this all happan. Are there region free DVDs that don't have the macrovision (or whatever) built in?

The cyberhome ch-300 has a hack that will allow you to select different regions via the remote control.

I think there's a macrovision hack too, but to be perfectly honest I'm not 100% sure if these work with the newest models. It's about $40 at Wal-Mart."Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

Hello to All
The cyberhome CH-DVD 320 or 300 which are practically the same model are great for playing dvd dvd-r etc... they
are the best so far , can automatically switch from 110-220v and NTSC and PAL, great unit for great price.Any way the reason I am posting this is to update all my fellow CYBERHOME DVD owners, IT is true you can change the region code to any region with the remote , I personally keep it to region 0 , but people who are wishing to buy this unit I think we are out of luck, as for the cyber home DVD players marketed until march 2004 (listed on box and on unit) the region code can be changed , but after that I dont gurantee, I have a septermber 2004 and and october 2004 and they cannot be changed using the remote control method, I hope this is helpful , I will probably start a new thread for this problem to see if we can fix this.If drugs cant get you high , become a Pilot!! -
Philips642 has no macrovision right out of the box and you can set the player to all region with the remote control.

Skyworth 1050p was region and macrovision free.

Maybe something from them.
Of course you could always just pick up a Sima Color Corrector, since it is DVD to VHS the older one will work fine.
