  1. I have searched the boards, read the FAQ and strolled through the countless walkthroughs and writeups...... to say the least, I'm quite overwelmed. I don't know what is what. I have downloaded several pieces of software and don't even really know how to use them. I have MANY movies all in .AVI format. Almost all of them are in one part. I just want them to play on the Sony DVP-NS575P in my house. Be it on a CDR or DVDR.... I don't really care. Of course, I would like them to look atleast decent though. Anyway, I guess I'm asking for some advice. Since I have so many movies, I would like to keep encoding time to a min. I really don't need a bunch of fancy features or anything. I like ease of use...... so what would be the best software for me? And on a side note, is there a single program that does pretty much everything? Convert to DVDs, back up DVDs, back up software, back up PS2 games, burn anything..... anything like that? Thanks for you replies!!!!!!

Since you have many movies in AVI format (I'd guess theyre all in divx3/4/5 or xvid codecs) then I would rather buy some another $50 dvd player able to playback mpeg-4 codec AVIs if I were you

Time-wise it'd certainly be the quickest

If you were to go the "encode" route, I'd look at a few of the All-In-One Tools.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Youre right jimmmalenko.
I found myself finally using one of them too
DVD2SVCD does basically everything I used to do manually with same or similar tools since its a GUI for batch scripts
Despite its name it also does AVI to VCD, SVCD and DVD, and DVD to DVD as well (and other conversion too, like DVB to ...)
It is able to use Cinema Craft Encoder in multipass mode, which is the most important part of the backup process if you are going to backup DVD-9 to DVD-5. But you can use it with TMPEG Encoder as well if you cant afford CCE or it seems like too much.
And its very easy to use.

    Give it a try

My favorite AVI to DVD software at the moment is VSO Software's DivXtoDVD. It's incredibly easy to use and free. http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm
