I’m thinking about getting my wife a digital camcorder for Christmas. I plan on creating DVDs after some minor editing on my PC. So the plan is to shoot the movie on my camcorder, upload to my PC, convert, edit, and create DVDs in MPEG2 I’m assuming.

I’m looking at low-end cameras, less than $500. Show I be looking for or avoiding anything in particular. I want to avoid proprietary formats that will make things difficult like the hoops I’ve jumped through to convert Quicktime to MPEG2.

    Thanks in advance
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress?

  2. Just get a Mini-DV cam that uses DV tape and has a firewire interface for your computer.

Most cheap DV cams have poor low light ability because of the small CCD's used in these cameras. So if you are planning to shoot indoors you will want to find the best low light camera you can find.
    Good Luck

    Hi BobV,

This site: www.camcorderinfo.com might be of use...
