Another movie I'm currently watching while I'm getting oiled up for Santa bowling. Not a bad flick.

  2. Saw the ending credits. He died on his way to change his will (exclude the 2nd? wife) & the bitch got everything while his kids got virtually squat. The only photo in his wallet was of his 1st wife. Ain't life (death) a bitch?

  4. The movie was moderately interesting, but I was ultimately disappointed in it. However, from what I've read elsewhere it probably presented a fairly accurate picture of what Sellers was like. The part about him leaving his children out of his will is an excellent example of what he was supposed to be like....

Would explain why one of his daughters ened up working as a call girl for Heidi Fleiss.

Lynne Frederick was his 4th wife - she died in 1994.
She was an actress and did a number of films in the '70s, starting out as an innocent girl turned nudie cutie/rape victim/scream queen and eventually drifted into comedy opposite Sellers.
She's in Lucio Fulci's violent western, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse with Fabio Testi and Michael J. Pollard

I haven't seen the movie about Sellers yet, so I don't know how accurate the film is.

I do know the Sellers family were not happy about Peter marrying Lynne Frederick, and early on were convinced that she was only after his money.

Still reading Tatum O'Neal's book - which makes Joan Crawford look like Mother Teresa in comparsion to Tatum's famous parents!
There's bound to be a movie deal for that story

A little OT but has anyone seen one of his funnier early movies "The Party"? Classic Sellers

  7. My favorite was "The Magic Christian". He was great with Ringo Starr and I've often wondered why they didn't do more work together. However, if he was as hard to work with as they say, it would explain a lot....

  8. The tv show was ok but Geoffrey Rush was exellent.
My favorite Sellers movie was "Dr.Strangelove".

What was that one movie called...."The Gardener" or something like that? Not a comedy but I really liked that Sellers movie.
The Pink Panthers are classics of course.

    It's availbale on DVD here.

It's hilarious in a subtle yet profond way - much like The Gods Must Be Crazy, that will probably not appeal to a wide audience.
It wasn't a big money maker...but one of those rare gems that was fortunate enough to have been made.

an illiterate gardener mistaken for a brilliant pundit well versed on everything from nature's inexorable cycles to the exigencies of modern politics.

Very funny or scary when you think how thin the line is between genius and just the opposite

Loved the whole premise of The Party - which was quite funny and original for that time period (the unwanted guest that is accidently sent an invitation to an elite party who is accident prone and turns things upside down)...but that those type of comedies were recylced and became cliche...it probably would come off stale nowadays (compared to movies like The Naked Gun or The Hollywood Knights ) - just that I think most people would have higher expectations now.

Sellers was great in it and it's classic Blake Edwards (who also made the Pink Panther movies)
One of Edwards' movies I got the biggest kick out of was S.OB. - another one that might only appeal to a select group. The whole way the Hollywood system works and done as a satire...but is all so close to the way things really are (or it least were at that time).

My dad was a huge fan of Peter Sellers - his favoites were The Party and A Shot In The Dark (so...I've seen those a number of times over the years).

I liked Murder by Death the most of Sellers' movies - it was a mystery/who done it satire...on the same order as The Cheap Detective.

With a little imagination one could see similarities between The Party and Bean.

Party had the cornish game hen stuck on the woman's tiara, and Bean had the entire turkey stuck on Bean's head

Both were inept buffoons there by mistake and had to make the most of it.

I loved both movies. Maybe I'm a sucker for slapstick type humor, but the airsick bag scene at the beginning of Bean still cracks me up and I've seen it a half dozen times already
