  1. I'm running OSX 10.2 and downloaded some public domain films in the mp4 format. The site gives the option of downloading MPEG-1 or 2 but being a novice I chose mp4 because of the smaller size. Can I expect a good quality DVD encode from my mp4s or do I need to re-download using one of the other MPEG options? Thanks!

    depending on the format of the other options..

    mpeg1 = probably vcd format, vhs-ish quality
    mpeg2 = vhs to dvd quality, probably your best choice

    you could convert the mp4 file to mpeg2 (which is what dvd uses), but you would lose quality along the way. you need to find the specs of the mpeg2 file, it may be svcd.. but if its dvd spec, then go for it.
