How can I determine what mfg made the DVD player in my Toyota van? The audio system is labeled JBL, but I doubt that they made the player itself.

Once ID'd, is there likely to be a hack that would permit it to play MP3 discs?

These might be really dumb questions, but I thought I'd give it a try. I have heard that many DVD players, regardless of brand, are made by just a few manufacturers and I know that many newer models play MP3 discs ... so, I'd like my brand ??? Toyota DVD player to play MP3 discs!

Anyone have any suggestions or is this a futile pursuit?

    Hello,

I'd find that extremely doubtful if it could. Or if there'd be a hack for it.

My family has a lease car with a dvd player in it. I tried out several different formats on it. It played Dvd - and + r just fine. But it refused to play Vcd or Svcd (not even rw or a pressed vcd). It was on a Chrysler Pacifica.

Chances are your dvd player is stripped down for only Dvd Video.

If you want go through the guides under "how to" on the left. In there is a guide to put cd audio on a dvd. That is probably your best bet at any "hack" for the system. Though be sure to use a rw to avoid blanks if it doesn't work.

    Best of luck
