Are rear projection TV's highly prone to burn-in from video games? I don't play my Xbox all the time but saw where it said if you intend on playing video games for hours on end, you shouldn't go rear projection. I just wanted to know is that 1 hour of video game playing or 10 hours of video game playing that would cause burn-in. If I'm a light player of video games, should I be concerned of burning in images and ghosting?

Video games have gotten a bad rap for burn in for years and years, but burn in can be caused by lots of things. If you watch a channel with a logo on the screen, it is quite possible for that logo to become permanently burned into the screen if you watch it enough.
Rear projections are more prone to burn in, but playing a few hours of Xbox a week shouldn't be any more dangerous than watching 9 hours of football every sunday like a lot of people do."Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

Cool, I also just found an article that says if you properly calibrate the screen you also reduce the risk of burn-in and just as you said if you play games for 2 or 3 hours at a time, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I remember a radio show that had a repeat caller asking about "good tvs" hey kept his TV on a channel with a scrolling Marqee 24/7 and wondered why when he'd change it it was burned in. -

Yes it's true. This is what really happens if you leave them on long enough."There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -

Burn-in was a side-effect of the earlier phosphors used in picture tubes. If you left an image on too long it would permanently change the phosphor.
Since a projection TV has no phosphors, there isn't a concern at all. In fact, the newer picture tubes and CRT monitors don't have this problem nearly as bad as they used to. -
I was never all that concerned with burn-in, personally. I was usually alot closer to burning out, truth be told.

NOTE:
Just to set the record straight, the image of a burning tv in this thread is not political or religious. It's a 25-month old story (11-2002) about people wanting more censorship on tv. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2002/20021111/ncr1.htm#12

For the price and the size, CRT can't be beat. They are tried and true and burn-in is not really that big a deal. I play video games, I've had the same TV for 6 1/2 years, and it's still fine. Anyway, no matter what type of set you buy it will wear out and need to be replaced eventually.
IMO the only other choice is DLP. LCD has problems that make it completely unappealling, to me anyway. The real drawback for DLP sets is that they are pretty pricey and the only real advantage is that they use less electricity and take up less room.
@ Flaystus- Oh well, at least you know it's happening! Far better than being clueless about it. -
I may have found the answer to my problem. I found a TV for about $1,300 it's a CRT projection model with a 47" screen. It's by Samsung and received excellent reviews from everything I have read. The best part is that is utilizes auto pixel shift which it says is to help prevent burn-in. I think this one will be the way to go.
