  1. For some reason DVDShrink will not compress Pitch Black Special Edition. At first I was getting some sort of error and then DVDShrink would instantly close. I can't remember what the error was. I saved a screen shot of it, but now cannot find it.

Anyways, I tried doing it again today, and now it doesn't even give me an error, it just pops up like it's beginning to encode and then just disappears. Completely closes out w/o any msg or anything.

I have used DVD Decrypter to rip to the HD. But Decrypter doesn't compress to fit on a DVDR. So I tried using DVDShrink w/ the files I have on my HD, no luck. I have tried straight from the disc w/ DVDShrink also. Same thing.

I DL'd the trial of DVD2One and then got some lame message saying "this license has been SPREADED around the internet, and obviously we know, blah blah we won't be responsible for what happens to your computer". I uninstalled it...

I also get a cyclic redundancy error on Swordfish. I know that error is usually because the disc is dirty or scratched. But this disc is basically perfect...

    Thanks for any help!

CRC errors are when the software is comparing one file to the other and they don't match. (More or less)

They can be caused by bad memory modules or HD problems, or even software problems.

Some of the standard solutions; Uninstall Shrink and DVDDecrypter and reinstall.

More obscure; Power supply failing, Reformat HD, (Last Choice.)

You can test your memory with testing programs, Or substitute a known good stick. I have also got CRCs with software corruption, but that's hard to pin down without a OS reinstall.

  3. Maybe try ripping with SmartRipper then use DVDshrink. Also I believe you could use IFOedit (or is it VOBedit ) to fix any DVD authoring errors then use DVDshrink (I have had to do this on a few badly authored DVD's a long time ago).

  4. Sorry to bring this old topic back up, but I am having the same exact problem with backing up this DVD.

Right after I hit backup in DVD Shrink, a message says that there was a programming erorr and needs to close. I tried it again and got the same thing.

I also used DVD Decrypter to copy the files to my hard drive and the same thing happened in DVD Shrink.

    Any ideas?

My computer is about a month old, and I have made about 20-30 backups since I built it, so I don't think anything could be wrong.

Has anyone successfully backed this one up?
