  1. So I'm finding using 20 apps to get a decent SVCD out of an avi pretty frustrating... Is there a mainstream app out there that does a one click job of this? I'd gladly pay for an app that lets me drag in some AVIs and click GO for it to convert the files, split the converted files up into the proper sizes and then burn them.. Sounds like something like that should be out there but i just can't find it! (Neroexpress seems to do something similar but does not split up the files- i think)

  2. use diko,

it still uses lots of apps (necessary for a good quality conversion) but once set up, it does it all for you diko controls the apps instead of you, making for a much easier job...

    it's great

Strange - I find such endeavours interesting and challenging! Specially when there are a few command line tools with arcane syntax thrown into the mix. 8)

Ulead DVD Factory (or DVD Workshop) does everything, including burning, and can capture too if you need it to. It costs money but a trial is available from www.ulead.com.

I used to find playing with lots of different applications an interesting challenge, now I just want to get the job done. I've proved I can do it the hard way if I'm feeling masochistic!

The problem with AVIs is that they can contain almost anything. Hoping for one app to cover all combinations and variations of audio/video codecs is simply to hope for too much. By using "black box" type of apps (AVI in one end, a finished DVD out the other) you have no idea of if and how it worked, until you put the disc in the player.
If I want a chair, I have two choices: I can either start by chopping down a tree, and take it from there, using specialized tools in the process. Or, I go to IKEA and buy me a "Runar". I don't ask for a machine where I can put the log in one end, and out pops some kind of chair the other?
But, as always, each to his/her own!
