This player has been awsome overall so far in terms of it's capabilities especially at the low price. One odd thing I noticed is a movie that played and looked great / dvd like quality on my older apex player model AD-2600 looks like crap on this Phillips DVP642. It looks like a screener or so, the image is slightly blured and grainy, colors look under saturated etc, very different from the playback on my old player. On Apex, it's extreemly sharp, vivid color etc. The movie has no problems playing sound etc. it just looks really bad.
One difference with this movie is that I'm using different media for playback this time around. The media is Smarbuy 48x silver, the other which I played on Apex, still haven't tested on this player yet, it's Hewlett Packard 24x white cdr label.
Is it possible that the media itself causes this quality degradation?
This svcd movie is encoded to all official SVCD standards using DVD2SVCD.
It's just odd that it plays back so bad...Other movies play great, but it would be nice to know what the issue is to avoid it in the future![]()
