My Pioneer DVD player plays mpeg2 video at the resolution of 352x288 pixels and mp2 audio. It recognises it as SVCD. The Video is clear and sharp and almost like DVD video. Do all players play mpeg2 file of VCD video file resolution (both PAL & NTSC). I am aware that officially it is not so.
Someone of you might have come across it, and just for my curiosity this question!
Thanks in advance.

You may have a XVCD disc rather than a SVCD disc.
Some XVCD discs use mpeg-2 which most DVD players
will incorrectly detect as a Super Video CD. You
can make a XVCD at 352x288 mpeg-2.
SVCD discs (480x480 mpeg2/480x576 mpeg2)
should play at that resolution but not all players
work that well with SVCD.
