    Hi All,
Looking for a way to do a cheap, no frills, VCD backup of less important stuff and I found Eazy VCD. I like it for what it does. Problem is as soon as I upgraded to 1.15a, it doesnt work anymore. It freezes when it scans the DVD. I use two differnt machines and it does the same on both. One is win2k and the other XPpro. I tried forcing the aspi to no avail and also tried enableing DMA. All my other readers work fine, except for WinDVD, which I removed and it still didnt help.It locked up everytime I tried to read a dvd as well, but powerDVD works great. I really hate to give up on this little thing, but the way to solve it with the XP computer was to uninstall it and put in EazyVCD 1.14e. The authors site was no help, which I can accept, since it is freeware.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this and what they did to fix them.

Am I the only one having this problem?

  3. Don't know what OS or ASPI version you are running, but what the heck -- here goes ...

I had the same problem some time ago. It has been some time, but I believe I resolved it by using ForceASPI to remove all ASPI components and to install all of the ASPI 4.57 (1008) components. I seem to recall the 4.60 (and possibly newer) versions of Adaptec's ASPI drivers may present a problem with Windows XP and possibly other Windows versions.

    Hope this helps !!

Home system is windows xp, work is Win2k. I have EazyVCD 1.14e running at home and it works really well.

My work one is running 1.15a and it just wont work. Weird thing is it did work once, then stopped after. I had the same thing happen at home, but finally just reinstalled 1.14e and it went away. I have nero on both systems and also FairUse .33. Each one has several different programs on it which I have tried and played with.
The authors site lists 4.60 ASPI as the drug of choice for this program. I installed it and checked the ASPI layer. All is green. Still it will not access the DVD. Took 4.60 out and tried 4.72 with the fix, no good. Tried 4.57 ( tough to find!) and that didnt work either. Finally forced 4.60 back into it and all else works great, but EazyVCD simply stalls when it goes to read the disk. I have even tried removing the DVD drive, updating drivers for system including video and chipset. I even upgraded the firmware in the DVD.
    Im stumped.
    Thanks for the reply by the way! :}

  5. I'm baffled ...

Does it successfully scan the DVD?

If so -- Load EazyVCD and insert the DVD in the drive. Click the Scan DVD button. Then load PowerDVD, WinDVD, or your preferred PC-based DVD playing software to pay a few seconds of the movie. Then close the software DVD player and press the "RIP IT" button on Eazy VCD.

Also -- if it appears to be a V-Strip locking up problem, try checking to see if there is a newer version of VStrip and extract it to the EazyVCD program directory. You might also try to copy the VStrip.exe from the 1.14e folder to the 1.15a directory.

    Out of ideas !!

If it all fails -- try DVD2SVCD for VCD's or SVCD's. Use it with w/ D2SRoba if you make SVCD's ( http://home.no.net/tylo/ ). It's pretty darn close to a one click operation.

I've stopped using Eazy VCD as it provides better VCD's / SVCD's and affords greater flexibility. Don't get me wrong -- I like it and would probably still use it if it were updated and added AVI conversion support in addition to the CinemaCraft Encoder support.

Well it wont scan the DVD, no matter what I do.
If I load just the EazyVCD with no disk. it tells me "No Disk". If I then insert the disk, autoplay on PowerDVD comes up, I play it for a few seconds and then shut it down. Then I press "Scan Disk" and it just brings up the little box "Scanning Disk" and sits there. If I press cancel the box goes away. When I close down EazyDVD it closes fine....but ...If I do A CNTRL-ALT-DEL and look at the task list, Eazy DVD is still running. I have been looking at the ASPI layer, nothing seems to be helping.
I think I might check out your solution.
Basically all Im looking for is something that will burn out Bin/Cue files with minimal intervention. Just click it and go home...

  7. DVD2SVCD will definitley do want you want and create BIN/CUE files. It can be used alone or in conjunction with D2SRoba. However -- you need to provide the encoder (CCE or TMPGenc). Once you set it up (i.e. select the encoder; and select DVD->VCD/SVCD or AVI->VCD/SVCD, it really is basically a 2-click operation with BIN/CUE files at the end.

If you use CCE as your encoder, then D2SRoba is an excellent add-on. I use it to do all of the calcs to determine Q level for a one-pass VBR run at the # of CD's I specify (or list the BR/Q level results w/ 1,2 or 3 CD options). One pass VBR usong D2SRoba is much quicker than Multi-pass VBR and provides quality virtually indistinguishable from a 4-pass VBR encode, when played on a TV. Still looks very good on a PC, too.

Give it a shot! I think you'll like the results.

    Good Luck !!

*** One last thing w/ EazyVCD -- Try disabling AutoPlay or AutoInsert Notification for the DVD drive in Windows. For some reason, I think I had a problem with EazyVCD when that was enabled. It's been a while, though.

Hey! I have been working with the DVD2SVCD for a few days here and I think I am liking this quite a bit! Thanks for the tip. The One Pass is terrific. Had to go back to my original ASPI layers since I was getting read errors from the DVD, but still no help for EazyVCD. I guess until he tries again, I will just use DVD2SVCD.

    Thanks again!

  9. Glad you like it. I've been very impressed with DVD2SVCD in conjuntion with CCE and D2SRoba. Great quality and shorter encode times.

Be sure to check the D2SRoba site often, as updates are quite frequent !!

    Good luck !!

  10. I seem to have a more fundamental problem with EAZY VCD. I have been using DVD2VCD, but it the apparent simplicity of using EAZY, and its ability to do XVCDs, was tempting to try.

But, I get a Run Time Error Type 53 - file not found. [name of the file not found is not indicated!]

Playing with ASPI issues does not seem to help.

This is on W2000 P3 machine.

Anyone out there who can explain ?

    Thanks.

  11. Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing?

Make sure you have admin rights when installing and running the program.

go to http://www.eazyvcd.tk and email the creator of the software. He is really quick to respond and very helpful.
    If in doubt, Google it.

This is not an ASPI issue. I've encountered this type of problem before. Although mine come with this message first:

    Code:
    16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem
path to the program that you are trying to start or install
config.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Choosing Ignore or Closed will get you this window

    Code:
    Run Time Error Type 53
    File not found
And after a lot of hair pulling and head scratching (e-mail to website not answered), I found that the problem is because of 1 or all of this 3 files are missing or corrupted from the C:\windows\system32\ directory.

    1 Config.nt
    2 Autoexec.nt
    3 Command.com

This files are needed to run window 16bit program like vstrip which easy vcd is using. They might be unintentionaly removed when you uninstall a program like easy vcd by using custom setting and highlighting all the files or corrupted.

To correct this problem, you will have to extract the original files from the winxp install disk back to the C:\windows\system32\ directory.

    1. Insert the CD into the CD drive or DVD drive.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
    4. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:

    Code:
    expand (CD-ROM Drive Letter):\i386\config.nt_(SPACE) c:\windows\system32\config.nt(ENTER)
    expand (CD-ROM Drive Letter):\i386\autoexec.nt_(SPACE) c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt(ENTER)
    expand (CD-ROM Drive Letter):\i386\command.co_(SPACE) c:\windows\system32\command.com(ENTER)
    exit
This will resolved the issue and hopefully the website will include this solution for future reference or include a patch for this.
