I know this is the wrong place for this, but Target has the Cyberhome DVD Player that does PAL with Progressive scan... I picked one up yesterday for $28. Yeah, that's right, $28.

Just thought I'd share. I know it ought to be in "deals" or "players" or something, but it really IS the answer to your "can't play PAL" problems. In addition to being WEE (it's mini-component sized), it's a decent little player, region-free, and plays EVERYTHING except mini-DVD and some XSVCD's.

  2. Gurm,
What model is it? And how is the quality of the playback? IMPORTANT, you need to get your avatar back. There's nothing like a drill sargeant poking his finger in a newbie's puss to set him straight.
It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in.

  3. If this is a model 300 or a 320, here's a small caveat. While the unit performs very well, the power supply isn't that great. It will last a lot longer if you can switch the power COMPLETELY off when not in use. Not just the "soft" power-off on the player.

My 300 died only after a few months. It seems the soft power-off still had the player drawing a lot of juice which was too much for the power supply over a period of time. I bought a new player (which enabled me to return the old one) and plugged it into an outlet where I could turn the power on and off with the wall switch. It's still going strong after 7 months. Not one hiccup with both PAL and NTSC discs. I'm considering installing a switch on the player's power cord.

I just checked on target.com, and they are showing the CH320 for $39.99. Did you happen to buy this one for $28 on Black Friday?

No, it was yesterday. And it's the 320, which is just a rebadged 300 for Target.

It might have been a weekend sale, but I can't imagine it won't go back down again.

Best Buy also has it for $39.

I'll take that advice and put it on a switched cord.
