Avidemux. It requires that you install some dependencies first.. Do you know how to install from source code? I'll be glad to help you get started with linux.Hi i am trying to do edge detection in a video file using C , Is there any simple video file format or is it better to try it with webcam. I'll take you up on that offer! Actually, I'm just getting ready to install DVD Shrink (as opposed to Shrink DVDOriginally Posted by Garibaldi
) under WINE. Did you get your codecs into the right folder?
Now back to your regular topic..... -
Hmmm..... will dvd shrink run complete under wine? You probably could do a conversion from a folder already on your hard drive but I don't know if it will let you rip from /dev/cdrom?? If you know how or have some guides please let me know! What codecs are you refering to? What distro are you using?? I'm using a special flavor of slackware called topologilinux, which runs off an image file on your ntsf partition, but it isn't an emulator, it actually boots to linux. I personally would recommend Slackware or Debian, because they are the oldest distros and have a big support base because of it. I'm glad I found someone else with whom I can troubleshoot linux with!I'll take you up on that offer! Everything I've read says it's hit or miss. I like things simple, and DVD Shrink is simple. I'll still burn with K3b though.Originally Posted by Garibaldi

Fedora Core 2. I've run Red Hat on and off since ver. 4.2, and even ran MKS Tools under DOS before that. I still consider myself a total n00b with linux, but I can usually figure things out eventually. What distro are you using??

Yea.. K3b is really the best software out there (IMO) for burning in linux.Everything I've read says it's hit or miss. I like things simple, and DVD Shrink is simple. I'll still burn with K3b though.
No I still haven't got them to work. I cannot figure out what folder to install to. Someone told me to copy them into mplayer/codecs/, but I cannot find that folder so I'm really at a loss as what to do.The codec pack for mplayrer you were trying to install this weekend.
You might also want to talk to Bazooka, he uses Fedora. What windowmanger(s) do you use? Personally I prefer KDE for my everday use, as for doing rendering and conversions I'll just drop back to aFedora Core 2. less processor heavy windowmanager like Window Maker or Fluxbox.
Currently I'm trying to get avidemux to work correctly.. I'm getting pretty close and when I finally get it I can let you know how to do it if you want. I would recommend the 2.0.34 test 1 version. -
That was me. I can't remember where it was I told you they were supposed to go. It was either /etc/mplayer/codecs or /home/<your home dir>/.mplayer/codecsOriginally Posted by Garibaldi
You want to see some real problems, try installing a bt878 WinTV GO!
Every app assumes deice = video0, but video0 is my webcam. I still haven't found out what device my capture card is mapped to!

Oh Yeah... sorry. I tried doing a search for a folder called codecs, but no results like what I would expect were found. I can try checking again though. That was me. As far as that capture device, wouldn't it just be easier to unplug your webcam when you want to use the capture card? This way both could be video0. What linux software do you use for video-editing? I'm just getting started but I have installed:
avidemux
ffmpeg
transcode
qdvd author
cinelerra
lVE
LiVES
I would like to install DVD Styler but I'm having trouble installing all the depencies. -
I'm just starting as well. I just installed this distro last week. I do things very methodically. I can't capture if I can't see my input. I'll try unplugging the webcam as you suggested. Thanks.
I still want to work on installing DVD Shrink under WINE. Maybe this weekend.... -
I typed up a list of common linux commands... I could give you a copy if you want. As far as dvd Shrink under WINE, all you have to do is extract the dvd shrink folder to your linux partition. If you already have wine installed just go to the directory and right click on dvd shrink.exe and say open with. In the dialog type wine and hit enter. After a few seconds it should load up. I would really like to use iTunes in linux too- the only way that I know of is to use crossover office.

Do you have wine installed? Do you know how to install from source? I'd be glad to help.
