  1. I did a quick search but I am looking for a simple answer. Some DVD's that I want are only in PAL format. Can I at least play them on my computer screen/projector with VLC or something? I have all the normal DVD tools used by this forum's members.

All computers that have DVD players can playback both PAL and NTSC DVDs. If you intend to watch the DVD on a computer you can get either format.

  4. Also, if Your TV set supports both systems then You can watch the DVD on a TV from PowerBook..

  6. You can convert the DVD format over to NTSC with DVD Converter (part of the MPEG2WORKS package $10 shareware). I recently converted a PAL dvd to NTSC, the process took about 3 1/2 hrs start to finish. The conversion with DVD converter took 3 hrs and to place functioning menus with DVD Studio Pro took 1/2 hr. The picture quality is actually very good too.

Conversion is fine if you cant afford other options. My suggestion is to buy a DVD player that converts PAL to NTSC and region free. I just got the Philips DP642, a DVD/SVCD/VCD/MP3 player that plays MPEG-4 AVI files as well as data CD/DVD with MPEG1/2 files. A simple key combination from the remote makes the player region 0. All that for $62.

  9. Serbian, you out there? How does DVD Converter handle subtitles? Most of my PAL DVDs are subtitled. What's the process for keeping these?

    Thanks.

  10. Unfortenatly, You have to re-author Your DVD again after the conversion and add subtitles manually...My little helper tool does not handle subs...

  11. Oh, geez, it's been a looong time since I've done that.

What's the recommended system for that these days?

Sizzle + SubTractor (did that ever work properly?...can't remember)?

    DVDSP?

    Thanks again, Serbian.
