    I encoded a movie that was 480x480 29.97.
I encoded it to 350x480 29.97 to make it DVD quality.
I played back the encoded file in power DVD and it was fine.

I then authored and burned it, but when I played it in my DVD player there was a jumpy picture.

    Did I encode wrong
    Do I change the settings
Do I change to progressive instead of interlace
Do I change the field position

How do I get rid of the jumpy picture

  2. Sounds like a field position problem.
You should post more info on your encoding process.
Try a program like restream to see if both your encodes 480x480 and 352x480(not 350x480) are the same field order. Or maybe the 350x480 is your issue(not DVD compliant).
You should say 352x480 is DVD compliant, not DVD quality.

I use TMPGEnc to encode, when I playback in my computer it's play fine.

so is it Field order or Interlace/Progressive issue

  4. Is the source interlaced or progressive?
Is the source a mpeg4 file or Mpeg2?
Again I assume you meant 352x480 and not 350x480?

Not sure I can help you, but someone else might.
Try posting your encode settings from TMPGEnc.
Does the 480x480 play fine on your DVD player(of course assuming your DVD player can play SVCDS)?

Is there a specific guide you followed?
This forum is DVD to SCVD, are you sure you posted it in the right place?
Did you create the 480x480 SVCD from a DVD, or is this SVCD your starting point?
Might want to check out some guides on the right. Maybe you'll be able to find where you went wrong, but definatly sounds like an encoding issue.

I changed the settings to field A and it plays back fine.
I there a program that can test my mpeg2 checking the

    - field (type A or B)
    - check if it is interlaced or progressive

When I do find out what the mpeg is, which settings produce the best results.

Make sure of the framerate of the svcd to see if it is 23.976 with 3:2 pulldown, run the original mpg thru dvd2avi to see if it is film,if it is then you have to encode as film(23.976 with pulldown applied).
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  7. Also open video with restream and that will show if upper field(type A) or not. But it only opens elementary streams(video with out audio) m2v or mpv, not multiplexed videos(mpg)
It will also show if progressive. Both under "picture coding extension".

Even though my video and audio is at 29.97, Do I have to slow down my audio to playback at 23.97 like my video or just leave the audio as is (29.97).

If I do it this way will my audio and video be in sync???

  9. Leave audio as is.
The total time of the video will still be the same.
