right now using TDK 8x dvd-r.
I am close to running out, and would like to get some more.
Any tips on what is recommended for this burner?
It is a 16x burner, but I would like 8x or higher

Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs tend to be the best around but I think I have heard that this Plextor DVD burner seems to like burning on DVD+R discs more-so than DVD-R discs but if the TDK DVD-R discs are working then the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs should be fine since they are ... afterall ... the best of the best.
Cheapest place to buy Taiyo Yuden DVD media is at RIMA.COM
The Maxell DVD-R discs are very good as well BUT only the packages that say MADE IN JAPAN because sometimes you find packages that say MADE IN TAIWAN and these are NOT real Maxell DVD-R discs but instead are RITEK DVD-R discs.
So Taiyo Yuden if you want to order on-line or Maxell if you want to stick to retail ... don't order Maxell on-line because you will not know ahead of time if you are to get a MADE IN JAPAN package or a MADE IN TAIWAN package.

P.S.
I'm not sure about that statement I made in regards to the Plextor drives liking DVD+R better than DVD-R as I don't normally "follow" the Plextor DVD burner scene but I could swear I have read this before so all I am saying is you might want to double check that and look into it some more."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

I would suggest you check out the Plextor forum at cdfreaks.com. They have lots of threads regarding the Plextor 716A drive.

Apparently from what I've read there have been problems with the first batch of 716A drives with certain brands of media. Anyway take a look at the Plextor forum there are people there that will help you out. -
Agree with taht Taiyo Yuden is the best so far but can't agree that Rima is the cheapest price to buy.
I've found out that www.supermediastore.com has best price so far.

$0.48 each for 100 pack. Why don't you try it out? -
Their shipping is so much more though that it's cheaper to buy from Rima. Last box of 500 discs I bought from Rima cost $7 shipping.
