Hi,
the title is self-explanatory...
The DP558 is the only player that has DivX playback capability, a Hard Drive and a TV Tuner... All together, that makes it the killer Home Cinema Player.
But can it do time shifting? (ie. pause while watching TV, and resume some minutes later, as if it was a plain recording)
I think it is a really great feature, that I would like to see on this player.

If it has a hard drive it is almost certain to have that feature.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
Well if I was to make such a player, it would be one of the top list features to implement.
I am asking because the player comes in another flavour: the DP-508 (I think) has a Hard Drive, but no TV Tuner. In this player, the function of the Hard Drive is to store movies, pictures and music... But more in a computer storing sort of way: the ones that do Time Shifting usually format the Hard Drive in their own way, to allow a better recording/playback of video.
But I surely hope they will implement this feature.
As this player is fairly new, I guess no one here has tested it yet... -
Shirley, a visit to the Kiss site will reveal all?

So I sent an email to Kiss, here's what they replied:
Sorry i dont have any information on this feature yet!
It was someone from the Kiss Hotline who replied...
So even they don't know about it !?! -
A friend of mine called Kiss Hotline in Denmark an asked about time-shifting.
The reply was that it should be available when they start selling it. If not, they would implement it in a "bios" upgrade very soon.
I should have my own DP-558 january 20. -

It is correct that the DP-558 recorder has been posponed, but it of course will come. We start up production end February and the recorder will then be on the market afetr one week. These dates is final.
Now let's hope they don't pospone it again. Other brands do have these kinds of products...
Cheers,

Have you received the player in the meantime? I'm still waiting for a delivery date

Yes, the DP-558 has timeshift!
Pressing 'Pause' the DP-558 starts recording the television channel on its Hard Disk, when you press 'Play', the DP-558 will start playing the movie it has in its memory while the rest of the movie is still being recorded. You can then watch the end of the movie with a few minutes delay.
He records to a "timeshift.vob"-file.
