I've been looking to buy a portable media player and have shortlisted it down to 2. The first is an 'ARCHOS' which uses Mpeg4 for the storage of video files. I've messed about with nero recode and have been impressed with the quality of the picture you get at the end, although it can take quite a while to recode a whole dvd. The second is the new 'Creative Labs' zen player which uses WMV files. I've never come across these and wonder what the quality is like compared to Mpeg4 and also what time is needed to convert a dvd video file is like. I know its all going to come down to bitrates. In the guides sections there also doesnt seem to be anything for converting dvd/vob/iso files to wmv (anyone got any suggestions). I've downloaded the new media player 10 but there doesnt seem to be an easy way to convert the files, unless i have to rip them to my HD first.

  2. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but the WMV file is a proprietary file of Microsoft. Currently I do not believe there is any method of converting these file types.
