I read in one of the other threads that the HD04 uses a Lite-On 451S for the DVD burner. Has anyone confirmed this? Someone else mentioned that the drive is covered in "copper tape". Why would you cover a dvd burner in copper tape?
If it is just a standard 415S burner, then I'm wondering if the firmware updates from iLo are updating the burner as well or just the unit.
Have you used any other brands of DVD+R media NOT listed in the FAQ? If so, did you have any problems with it burning correctly?

Hi prdffy;
Yes, the iLO DVDRHD04 does use a LiteOn 451S DVD drive. The drive has sections of copper tape criss-crossed on it, I believe to stop or reduce electromagnetic interference. Below is a thumbnail of a picture I took with the cover off my HD04 and the hard drive is removed to show the motherboard. Click on the thumbnail for a much bigger picture (almost 800Kb worth!). The firmware for the HD04 can also update the DVD burner, but it hasn't so far
I have been using the "Great AZO" DVD +R blank media sold by Meritline.com in my LiteOn 5001 and 5101 recorders, and my iLO DVDR04 and DVDRHD04 recorders plus my LiteOn 411S burner in my PC with no problems. The Media ID for these discs is VDSPMSAB001. These are not on iLO's recommended list.

Lite-on's international [http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/download.htm] website has LVW-5045 firmware. I need someone to comfirm if it is compatible with DVDRHD04. By the way, about hacking
the HD, I read the 5045_changes.txt , and its says FAT2. How can I
format a Hard drive to FAT2? I know FAT32. Try this firmware, if can't,
try to change the filename LNJCG191.D32 to WMJA1191.D22. Thank you guys, you did a great job. -
Hi tungbh;
So far the 5045 firmware has not worked on the HD04, but the hacking continues and hope is alive.
I think all versions of Windows (don't know about XP) will let you format to FAT32. Partition Magic is also a great tool. However, the firmware in the HD04 automatically partitions and formats the HDD. This is why when a larger HDD is put in only 80 Gig of it will be used.Proud Member of the Unofficial LiteOn/iLO Beta Testers Club. -
Thanks for the info and image Harpmaker.
Are the Time Shift and larger hard drive options the only reasons for wanting to flash the iLo with a Liteon 5045 firmware?
Thanks -
One more question ..
Can you change the burn speed through any of the menu options? Reason for asking is because some dvd media burn more reliably at slower speeds.
Thanks -
prdffy;
The main reason for wanting to use the 5045 firmware is to turn the HD04 into a 5045 and get something for nothing! The iLO DVDRHD04 is really a dumbed-down LiteOn 5020 (a model that LiteOn advertised on their website, but never shipped). The 5020 was the 5045 with an 80 Gig HDD instead of the 160 Gig. By dumbed-down I mean that many features of the 5020 were turned off in iLO's version of the firmware. The HD04 is capable of doing most, if not all, of the things the 5045 will do IF they are turned on in the firmware. To compare the two machines download their manuals. In a nutshell, the 5045 firmware would allow the HD04 to record -R/RW. VCD. SVCD. Audio CD and more. The required hardware is already in the HD04.
No, there is no way to slow down the burning of DVD's. The only time that would need to be done is when copying programs from the hard drive to a DVD. All other times the DVD burns at 1x (real time).
