  1. I am very out of date regarding the current DVD-R media. I will need to buy some DVD-R 4x in hurry and would like to get some recommendations (printable or non-printable).

Currently I am using Datasafe from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk. I have visited both www.blankdiscshop.co.uk and www.ukdvdr.com but have no idea which one to buy. From a quick scan through this forum, it appears that Ritex has gone down hill. Which dye, brand, etc. I should be looking for?

    Thanks.

I've had much luck with TDK DVD-R 4X. They are readily available at my local Target, here in the US. I typically don't buy my media online, because from seeing some of the posts here, it's seems to be "hit or miss" on what you might actually receive...

the simplest solution is to get TY's at rima.com (or wherever u like buying discs) they're simply the best and at a really affordable price...
With all due respect... and there is respect...

    Thanks.

  5. I use www.blankdiscshop.co.uk they sell Verbatim's at a good price (MCC coded) and Taiyo Yuden (in 100's only) but these are 8x disks. If your firmware supports them they are a good bet.

For 4 speed your best shot are the "Verbatim (4x) Pastel Coloured DVD-R (With excellent Taiyo Yuden dye) " £2.75 for 5.

Or take a chance on Prodisc or RITEK but I found the RITEK's quality to have gone down hill also and at the price the quality media is a much better bet.

Just ordered 100 Verbatim and 100 of the Ridata (TTG02) which should be TDK dye. I like this shop because they show the media codes.

  6. I would love to be able to buy Taiyo Yuden but the price is too steep for me.

Do you mean I should avoid Ritex if possible? Does it include those with Ritex dye i.e. ADVDINFO: RITEKG..04, RITEK G04/G05? These included:

    {DV 3058} Datawrite Yellow A-Grade Ritek (4x) DVD-R in Packs of 25
    ADVDINFO: .RITEK G04/M02

    {DV 3090} Ritek A-Grade (4x) DVD-R Disc in packs of 25
    ADVDINFO: .RITEKG..04

    {DV 3167} Ritek Inkjet Printable (G04 dye) A Grade (4x) DVD-R in Pack of 50
    ADVDINFO: .RITEKG..04

    {DV 3140} Printable Ridisc (4x) DVD-R in Spindle Tubs of 25
    ADVDINFO: .RITEKG..04

    {DV 3164} Ritek Ridisc A Grade (4x) DVD-R Disc in Packs of 25
    ADVDINFO: .RITEK G04/G0.

    How are the follow two:

    {DV 3121} Datawrite Grey (8x) DVD-R in Tubs of 25
    ADVDINFO: Prodisc F01 / FUJIFILM03

    {DV 3159} Datawrite Printable 8x DVD-R in Spindle Tubs of 25
    ADVinfo: CMC MAG. AE1?

Has anyone have experient using them?

    Thanks.

  10. I've never had any problems with the Ritek's I've had from SVP, and if I did, I would take advantage of the warranty they provide. The guys at SVP are a pleasure to do business with and I frequently recommend them. There has been a lot of talk about Ritek going down hill of late but I have to say my experience is that there are no quality issues with the Ritek's sourced by SVP here in the UK.

Of their current catalogue, I can recommend the following in the 4x range or thereabouts - in no particular order than this is how they appear on their website:

{DV 3149} Datawrite Premium Inkjet Printable (4x) - good printable surface and currently the TTG01 dye.

    {DV 3167} Ritek Inkjet Printable (G04 dye) - £14 for 50... say no more.

{DV 3137} Rivision Overprint - I don't usually go for overprints, but I have used hundreds of these with my standalone recorder in place of VHS tapes and for my personal use they are excelent - some overprints have fingermarks or scratches on them, but so far these are A1 if you don't mind the overprinted labels

    {DV 3103} Bulkpaq "Full-Face Printable "(4x) - Good Prodisc manufactured discs, a fiver for 25.

{DV 3041} Inkjet printable silver top Ridisc (4x) - Good G04 dye and a funky silver printable top for those "holographic" finishes...

As regular readers will know, I have an assortment of target devices, some of which are extremely difficult to cater for when it comes to recordable media. Since these work for me and I have yet to have a client's player reject these discs either, my experience says you could do a lot worse than this little lot.

Don't forget, if you get any grief, SVP warranty their discs... if only everyone online was as honest with their product descreiptions and service we would have it made.

  11. Thanks for all your helps.

Have anyone order from ukdvdr before? How is the quality of their discs in comparison to SVP? The price seem to be slightly cheaper at ukdvdr.

    Thanks.

  12. Sorry, one more question. Has anyone use:

    {DV 3090} Ritek A-Grade (4x) DVD-R Disc in packs of 25
    ADVDINFO: .RITEKG..04

    from SVP?

    Thanks.

Same service from UkDvdr as you get from SVP... Very good. Use both myself and have had no issues with either.

On the {DV 3090} orange Ritek G04's nope not used them.

I think I would like to give ukdvdr a try. However they don't have Ritek Inkjet Printable (G04 dye). Thus which media would you recommend me buying from them?

    Thanks.

    CLASSIC Datawrite 'Fuji' 4x DVD-r

They have a Prodisc SO3 Dye, have just used them (about 30 so far) as they are fine and cheap, handy for gving out to friends. Have to say the results so far have been excellent, have burned movies taking up the full disc and all have played perfectly in various players.

NEW DataWrite 'Fuji' 8x Speed Branded 4.7GB DVD-R

These discs (ones with Fuji code) have been excellent, have used hundreds with no problem, although it seems they are now coded as ProdiscF01, haven't tried these yet so can't say if there is any difference or what like they are.
