    ok i have a maxtor 120gb hd on my other pc that has been defragging for about 6 hours, on speed disk it says OPTIMIZING MOVING DATA 33%.....is there something wrong here cuz I have never had a hard drive take this long to defrag....or is it cuz the hard drive was so fragmented to begin with? any replies will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

    Well, tbo, it could be both heavily fragmented, and there could be something wrong.

    Only you can figure it out though, because I do not have the same computer setup as you.

    That or if you have less than 15% space available on the drive for it to move things around, I've noticed that can slow down defragging considerably. Better off cancelling it and freeing up space first.

    By george I think that's it! Cuz I have only less than 10 gb left on that drive. I backedup stuff from the failing 200gb hard drive on to the 120gb. Thanks for the help rallynavvie!
