After formatting my pc and installing xp pro my dvd writers are performing at about half the speed they should worst affected is my 8x external usb writer have i got a compatability problem please help

check to see your drives are in DMA MODE. here's a guide on how to enable DMA MODE in XP.

XP doesn't have USB 2.0 support unless you upgrade to SP1 or SP1a. It might be set to USB 1.1, hence your slow speed during burning.
