Hi all, I've been scanning the forum for hours looking for old discussions and found a few with good advice, but nothing that would completely solve my current problem. I hope someone can help.
I'm trying to make a DVD from avi files going from tmpgenc to ULead MovieFactory 3.5. I've made several DVDs already, but recently I tried doing a 23.976 fps file and had some problems.
I used tmpgenc to encode the 23.976 avi file to DVD (mpeg2) at 23.976 (internal 29.97) with the 3:2 pulldown on playback. When I add these files to ULead MF3.5, and click on "properties" of the media clips, ULead says they are 29.97. I assumed that ULead read the "tags" properly and saw the files as 29.97. My disc template is also set at 29.97 fps. Anyways, after burning the DVD, I saw there was a lot of choppiness and audio sync problems. The clips did preview just fine in MF3.5 (although I had to set chapter points earlier, since MF3.5 thought some of the later chapters exceeded the number of frames, due to the assumed 29.97 frame rate).
I've seen several other, old discussions that said ULead MF had problems with the 23.976 (tagged for 29.97) files. To fix it, others have merely had tmpgenc encode it straight up at 29.97.
1) Has anyone seen this problem (and fixed it) with ULead MF3.5 before? I'd appreciate any help you can give me! Otherwise, I'll probably just get tmpgenc to encode everything from now on at 29.97.
2) I saw that enabling the advanced features on ULead MovieFactory will give you access to changing the frame rate on the disc template. Not sure if this is something that will help me, but if anyone knows how to enable these features for MF3.5, that would be great. I didn't see instructions for this anywhere, so I tried following the instructions for enabling the advanced features on MF2 (editing the .ini file with the setting ADVANCE=1 under [VIODRIVER]), which didn't help.
3) Lastly, this is an unrelated nagging question that I've had for awhile, so I thought I'd ask: I use virtualdub to figure out what frame rate an avi file uses. For avi files that are 23.976, I always encode at 23.976 (29.97 playback) with the 3:2 pulldown on playback setting on tmpgenc. Curiously, when loading the avi file on tmpgenc, often the program will think its a video file (29.97). I generally manually change this to film (23.976) and switch off the inverse telecine (that tmpgenc automatically switches on when I called it "film"). I figured this would be okay since the avi file really is 23.976. Is this okay to do?
Thanks much!
