prodisc s04 on my liteon 411 fsok

just recieved prodisc s04 for the first time.. have always been s03 or mcc.
the problem is this.. the s04's wont let me burn at 4x. dvdinfopro shows only a 2x descriptor. i cant force a 4x burn right? these s04's are supposed to be first gen 8x, i read in another post..? anyone know of a remedy or am i gonna have to send back and try again?

I just started to use my Prodisc SO4 DVD-R 4x IJ. I had to update my Optorite(DD0201) firmware to 2.60 to get it to read 4x, DVDInfoPro had it at 2X only before the update. I just got through penning a thread to the Supermedia forum on the unsuccessful attempts at using these disks. No success at burning with these so far.

I burned 600 S04 discs at 4X with an LG 4120B and an NEC 3500. Both would let me burn them at 8X if I wanted to

It's probably because your firmware doesn't support that media code and is using a generic write strategy. You could try swapping in the write strategy or something, don't know if it is possible.

flash your 411 drive to a 811 drive by using the zebra mod. go to the LITEON FORUM at cdfreaks.com. flashing it to a 811 drive will be better. i use the firmware HS0P with my 411@811 drive. that one seems to work better with DVD-R media. Liteon burners seem to like DVD+R media better.

if you're going to flash the drive to a 811 just make sure you save the 411 EEPROM somewhere on your pc because you'll need it to flash it back to the original 411. read the liteon forum links i provided for you. you can read up on the zebra mod at http://forums.speedlabs.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=505e81169ea06fc712d54875a81ebc34&board=18.0

sorry i don't know for a fact if flashing your drive to a 811 that the prodisc s04's will work. i've never used those discs with my 411@811 drive. it's a known fact that LITEON drives cater more to DVD+R media than to DVD-R. I've been successful in using maxell and taiyo yuden DVD-R with my 411@811 drive with firmware HS0P.

if you flash your drive to the 811 use HS0P firmware. you can try posting some questions at the liteon forum at cdfreaks.com
