  1. Am I correct in thinking that the TBC-1000 does nothing in the way of a Processing Amplifier and the AVT-8710 is a TBC and a Proc Amp combined?

Does this mean the AVT-8710 is a better deal?

Would a TBC-1000 plus a box for brightness, contrast, color, saturation, hue and sharpness, a SIMA SCC-2 maybe, produce better results?

Would anything in between be redundant give the tbc/dnr/etc in the vcr and dvdr or is the more extra processing the better, in this case?

I have the a whole spectrum of tape qualities to convert.

I am trying to pin down the best possible < $700 set-up before embarking on a huge conversion project.

    All replies and recommendations appreciated.

I own both and prefer the AVT-8710, because:

1- The TBC-1000 softens the image and causes a blurred effect. The AVT-8710 has a sharpness control, and by default it has a more sharper image.

2- I've experienced more jitters on video recorded using the TBC-1000 than the AVT-8710. Especially on older videos the AVT-8710 does a better job of stablizing the video.

3- The AVT-8710 has video enhancement features built in and the TBC-1000 doesn't.

4- Why buy 2 devices when the job can be done well using one?

    Just my Opinion

ejai, do you get any vertical lines using the AVT-8710? There had been some reporting in another thread that this may be an issue with this device.

  4. The Sima units have a sync "restore" that can't be shut off. This can sometimes interfere with TBC's and VCR's that have picture enhancement circuits.
