  1. I am using DVDDecrypter and CloneDVD2 to make backups of my movies. It seems that the end of some of the movies skip and jump. Does anyone know what would cause this phenomenom or how I can prevent it.

I am using Ritek media and a Pioneer DVR-105 (DVD-R/RW)

    Help?

    take a look at the dvd media section & dvd writer in this forum site. i use (taiyo yuden) fuji 4x dvd-r, maxell 4x dvd-r, imation (ricoh)dvd+r 4x, 8x dvd-r ( fujifilm03)memorex & 8x dvd+r (prodisc) memorex.

you can go to rima.com to purchase taiyo yuden and prodisc. they are a reputable online store.

Time was when Ritek was the gold standard of media. That time has, sadly, come and gone.

Right now RICOHJPN (Ricoh Japan), Taiyo Yuden, and some Prodisc discs are considered pretty darn good.

Some will swear by Princo, but they're garbage.

I use ritek g04 dvd-r and sony media 4x dvd-r that I buy at compusa and they have been very good with my lite-on burners ,and what ever you do dont buy the compusa brand because they are princo and they are cheap but not reliable.

I used to swear by it. Never burned a single coaster in my Pioneer unit. No problems, until I came to read off a DVD six months later. Errors all over the place, especially at the end of the disc (where the dye hadn't been spread properly).

I now use Ritek discs - they seem fine. Taiyo Yuden comes very highly recommended, though. The man you're looking for is lordsurf - he knows his stuff. This is in his signature line, worth looking at:

  8. One question, why do the skips, jumps and lockups only occur at the end of the disk and no where else?

The currently-held explanation is that the dye on cheaper discs is spread less evenly over the outside of the disc - it is put on inside-to-outside.

  10. When I first started backing up my dvd's one the hints I saw in here somewhere was not to burn all the way to the edge of the disk. Since then I have set DVDShrink to output a file of 4250 and haven't a that problem of skipping at the end.

With a high quality DVD-R you should be able to get to 4400MB without a hitch.

I only use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R from RIMA.COM or the MADE IN JAPAN Maxell DVD-R discs (which can be bought at many retail outlets).

    Anything else is JUNK !

  14. Everone thank you for the assist.

My next question, does not really belong here, but I will ask anyway. My kids must have done something to the system my DVDR is resident and now when I run Copy2DVD, the software works fine, but the test does not display anymore, but all the graphics display. What stupid little thing happened to cause this? And yes I did reinstall the software.

    Thanks.
