  1. in the past if have removed the aspect ratio menu and it always defaulted to the widescreen movie. just recently i have been running into problem whci have forced me to just keep it (usually meaning it end up as the first play item... which is not pleasing to me). the one i backed up before was ENVY and i just settled for the aspect ratio menu but now im working on backing up GARFIELD and i am runing into the same problem. i thought i fixed it cause it played exactly how it should in powerdvd (i know... i know) but when i tried it in my set-top it just stops. any suggestions? thanks

lol, as you seem to know people should never use PowerDVD to test the DVD's . It gives misleading results as it will play most DVD's regardless of whether they will work in a standalone

try getting hold of marks tray player version 1.99a or previous, if not try Ifoedit's DVD player

are you using 2COOL's guide to bypass the menu?

  5. i have another project im working on and need to have finished by monday so i am focused on that right now but i will try it out for sure at night over the weekend. everything else in relation to backing up seems
so short in regards to the amount of steps it takes for the task at hand but after looking at that tutorial it seems so involved and time consuming for such a small thing. maybe i have just gotten used to the other stuff that it has just become second nature... maybe this will turn out to be the same. i will try to update you on monday. stay tuned

it does get easier the more times you do it

as with a lot of things, the hardest part is doing it for the first time

It was written for the anally retentative newbie to hopefully cut down on grey areas. Like MackemX said, the first time is the hardest time.

BTW, MackemX...it's been a while don't you think?

areet DoubleShadowIce , been a while indeed but I guess we have both been learning too

I reckon that 2COOL's guides have helped quite a few noobs, dunno about the anally retentative bit though

let us know how you get on Maginashun

anytime i try tutorials and the example dont exactly relate to mine i tend to doubt it will work but surprisingly enough it did. at first i was thinking that this tutorial was for one of those dvds that asked you to make the choice after you hit play... i find these easy cause everyone of those i have come acroos so far have been bypassed but just deleting that aspect ratio portion of the menu in ifoedit. much to my surprise it works on the ones that are up front about it and wont even let access the menu without first making that choice. it probably took me 30 mins to 1 hour cause i watch alot of tv (right next to computer). i ran into problems though along the way cause i was itching to get back to my ways. i already knew where the menu was so i didnt have to use dvdremake. next i followed the tutorial on pgcedit and at the end it says to check your progress and since it worked i jumped back into my way of doing things and i was thinking that since the commends are there in the ifo that i could just delete the image of the menu in ifoedit and things would be fine but that screwed everthing up and i had to start over again. now that i have been through it once, and actually paid attention it was a snap to go through it again.. im thinking the next time i have to do this it will take me a couple minutes to complete. once i completed the whole tutorial, including the vobblanker step, i edited the full screen and everything else not needed in ifoedit. thanks again for pointing me to 2cools tutorial. now i have to start another one for those times i have problems finding the first play command for the motion intros to the main menu. thanks again
