howdy Dudes
Im not good at short stories, but il try. I want to give you the full picture ok. Please bear with me.
About 3 weeks ago I bought a "VideoMate Live USB 2.0". Unless your not familiar with this device it is a external video capure/Tv tuner unit that sits on the desktop and interfaces through your USB port. It also has MPG Chipset compression integrated.
We have just started using it for Analog and DV capture via An old Analog camcorder, and a new Panasonic DV camera.
Since I live in Australia and I watch a standard Aspect TV I have set the unit to :-
Aspect 4:3
Pal B
Mono sound and Composite (at the moment because we are inputing from the old Analog Camera with the White and Yellow Comp Connectors)
I have set these as default Settings. One thing that Im not sure about at the moment is that towards the end of the second tape the VideoMate device brought up a message saying that it has "Automatically re-selected formats". - this was at a point in the tape that had alot of distortion and picture rolling. (error with the analog source tape im guessing).
After it had finished the capture I checked the "capture settings" and it had changed itself from PAL B to PAL "I". Whatever that is????
I have now got 2 Files that have Defaulted to "Nero ShowTime files"on my hard-drive. These play Via Nero Showtime or Whatever software movie player fine.
Picture and Sound intact and good.
I then used "Nero 6 burning suite" to burn the total 4.1 GB's of footage to DVD. I went to DVD/ "Photo and Video" icon and then selected "Make your own DVD Video" option.
I have now ended up at "NeroVision Express"
These are the steps that i went through for there:-
1. Add video Files -done - (IM NOW WONDERING IF I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE MAKE NEW MOVIE OPTION)
2. Merge files -done
3. Skipped "Chapter Creation" and "Edit Movie" to prove burn process
4. In the "MORE" dropdown at the bottom Ive selected "Video Options" and made sure that the format to burn to is Australia-PAL - Done.
Set up "large free Drive space"path, for the temporary folder in the "Configure" button next- to "Vid Opt's"..
Gone NEXT and ended up at the Menu page -skipped
Gone NEXT and ended at preview - skipped
Gone NEXT and ended up at "Drive parameters" page
"In Burn to"- Selected my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D Burner
Skipped volume name- it just says "DVD-Video"
"IN Recording Settings" - Left it at "Max" write speed but have selected "Determine Max Speed" and "Burn" tick boxes.
In the "Details" drop down box it now says:-
No of Titles: 1
1. Copy of file Nov to Dec 1999 (video title 1hr 40 Min)
Video mode: PAL
Aspect ratio: 4:3
Quality: Standard play (5073 kbps)
Resolution 720*576 (CCIR-601)
Number of menus: 1 copy of file nov to dec 1999(1 page)
closed "Details" box
Gone NEXT which in fact is the last step and says "Burn"
Hit "Burn"
and it then goes into Transcoding Streams - checking speed of device and then finally burns the disk.
SORRY FOR THE EXCRUCIATING DETAIL IN THIS POST. IM NOT TRYING TO GIVE ANYONE A TUTORIAL IN NERO(maybe i need one) BUT I HOPE IT WILL BETTER ALLOW YOU TO WORK OUT MY :-
"SOUND PROBLEM"
The problem is that when I put the finished disk into the XBOX which generally plays DVD's fine, the movie's picture is fine but there is -NO SOUND AT ALL coming out.
I then transfer the disk back to the computer and play it with "Nero Showtime player" and it is the same NO SOUND.
Like I said earlier there was sound before I burned the files, so something has happened to the sound in the burning process.
Can someone advise me as what you think Ive done wrong here, as I dont want to waste anymore DVD disks untill ive got some sort of solution or explanation here.
Thanks for your patience, your help will be appreciated
Yowie

Howdy Capmaster
I have never seen that tab before..
At moment the Aspect ratio is set to "Automatic"
Now the Bit your want to know:-
"Quality setting" is set to "Automatic"
Ive noticed that with this setting the "bit rate" defaults to a blank box- NO BIT RATE. is selected at all.
Its not untill you take the Quality Setting off "auto" and select one of the dropdowns that a bit rate is actually displayed.
What should I select ???? options are:-
High Quality, Standard Play, long play, extended play, super long play or Costom
Down at the bottom of the section it states that the
encoding Mode: is "High Quallity(2-Pass VBR)"
Audio Format: is "Dolby Digital(AC-3)2.0
Some guidence here on how to set-up this tab would be great, and some INSIGHT into future setup decisions for various projects, that may have different vairables which may also effect which options I should take here would also be usfull to me.
Is this my sound problem "NO BIT RATE" SELECTION???
Thanks Yowie -
I'm accross the pond in US but:
I always use the bundled Ulead MF2 to autor and burn.
I think the card only captures audio in mpg 1 layer2
Think it is a great device -
Howdy Guys
If you have read my post above then you know I'm having trouble with this audio or should I say NO AUDIO.
I thought I had it licked when Capmaster suggested that I see what bit rate I was burning to in Nero. When I looked there and saw that it was on “Auto” and no “bit rate” was selected then I thought that this must have been the problem.
Any Way the file that I am burning was 128 Minutes in length and I think the one I selected was "long Play" which it says will burn up to 180mins audio.
But alas it did no good. Still no sound on the final burn. Picture fine but no sound!
So it’s back to the drawing board.
Now the original video that I was sending to the capture device came from a Mono camcorder of about 5 years old. Does it make a difference what options I select down the bottom of those “More” audio options in Nero 6 that asks you to select options like:-
Encoding Mode: is "High Quality (2-Pass VBR)"
or Fast encoding (1-Pass)
Audio Format: is "Dolby Digital (AC-3)2.0
Or Stereo
How do I know what to select for different Audio formats – for example I’ve had an analog Mono source. What do I select Dolby digital or Stereo? - There is no option for mono. I had selected “Dolby Digital (AC-3)2.0”. Should I have gone for the stereo option?
And how about the “Encoding Mode, I selected "High Quality (2-Pass VBR)" was that ok??
I’ve looked in the VideoMate owner’s manual and it says in the Key Features:-
“Capture video from analog video sources and encode them to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 formats”
I didn’t think that it would be so hard. At this point I have no idea what could be wrong with this process.
Any Ideas
Thanks Yowie.
