I have an Osprey 2000, which I use to do video capture and video conferencing. It's a bit old, but it's still a great board. I feel the onboard hardware codecs work pretty well. I don't see any real need to replace it, but at the same time I have a WinTV card that I'm tempted to plug in just to get the TV capability. But, the Osprey 2000 has a Bt878 on it, as does the WinTV. (Yes, I know that if I don't take advantage of the hardware on the 2000 that it kind of works about the same as any other 878).

The question is: can I install and set up the WinTV board so that it does not conflict in XP Pro? Ideally I'd like my PC just to see it as a TV device. Possible?

Given that the Osprey software must already have some kind of Bt878 driver running, do you think it's possible that once I install the WinTV that the existing drivers will automatically try to associate with the new card? I've been thinking about this, as the Osprey software is capable of supporting mulitiple 2000 boards on one machine. If their software sees just another 878, then maybe...

I've noticed you are one of the knowledgable people on this board, lordsmurf, so I wonder what your opinion is of my holding on to the 2000 for capture use.

  4. No, the new card should load it's own drivers just
fine. Multiple capture boards are mostly fine - it
is mutliple TV tuners that are more likely to clash.

You may, however, have to test and change
slots for the new wintv board to work.

PS. If ever installing from scratch, always put
one card in 1st, boot and load drivers, then add the
second card.. so on and so forth.

You can do it only when you use the official drivers of each card and not generic ones (btwincap for example).

I was able for just the sake of it to install a hauppauge wintvprimio fm and a kworld 878rfpro (both with the same chip).

  6. I have been running like that for months.

IT did complain that you can't use VFW drivers at the same time, but I think wdm would work.

    Hauppage Wintv - running VFW
    Pinnacle PCTVPRO - running wdm.

    Hauppage is better for me.

    Running Win2k.

Okay. What if I do this? Use the Win2000 Osprey drivers for the 2000 (which I would guess are VFW?), and the btwincap drivers for the WinTV. Hmm, maybe (as I use the 2000 for video capture) I should just use the Hauppauge drivers for the WinTV. Would I lose anything in the way of TV viewing if I use these instead of btwincap?
