What is the differece from the Serial ATA and the UATA?

I have and HP Pavilion so would it matter which one I chose?

The ultra ata is parallel and the other is serial.
It is just the interface and cable that is the difference. -
The Pavillion will probably use Utra-ATA. Check to see if there is a flat 40-pin ribbon cable connecting the drives. If so -- it is definitely a Parallel ATA (PATA) and get the Ultra ATA-100 drive.
