  1. I'm a newbie and don't know if my question belongs here, if no, sorry.

    Anyway, I ripped an dvd of mine into VOB on the computer so I can add a subtitle. I know how to do that with AVI but can it be done with VOB ? And if yes, how ? Cause I couldn't find a tutorial about it ??

    Another question, how can I burn my VOB again ? Cause TEMPGEnc DVD Author gets an error if I wan't to author VOB...

    but it isn't worth it....tooooo much work. You could also make permanent subtitles but you must reconvert the video then.

    I know. That's what I used to do. But that takes hours and hours of work. Is it so hard to add a SUB to a VOB ? It sounds simple

    Edit: I've read the tutorial, and your right. It DOES take way too much work. Is there a way I can add a sub permanent without losing any quality and that doesn't take ages ?

    There are many ways to re-author a DVD, that much is certain, and then also, there must be many ways to add subtitles. This might work....
    You'll need DVD Decrypter and DVD Architect.

    Open DVD Decrypt and select the VOB file you want to decrypt. Please follow this guide:
    Open DVD Decrypter;
    Choose IFO mode;
    Hit Tools and Settings;
    On the guide IFO MODE, choose Options; File Splitting; NONE
    Just to make sure everything works out, on the guide FILE MODE; choose Options; File Splitting; NONE.
    After the end of the process you can return to the original DVD Decrypter config.:
    Choose File.
    IFO MODE guide; Options; File Splitting; 1 GB;
    FILE MODE guide; Options; File Splitting; By File.

    Now, get this new VOB (if it's real big, let's say longer than 52 minutes - let's talk about minutes here), open TMPGENC and demux it. Demux the VOB again to get the Ac-3 file. Open DVD Architect, drop this demuxed file there (both m2v and Ac-3 - they've got to have the same name; they'll go together) and select subtitles....Insert the subtitles you want. Correct them and make sure everything is OK.
    Insert other VOBs and do the same for the subs. Create your menus. Prepare your DVD folder and then burn it!

    Note: If you don't want menus, just Open DVD Architect, select no menu based DVD, and follow the steps above. Link one movie to the other one. Prepare and burn you DVD.

    You can also do this - if you want to use other software....and make no menus...(this time you'll also need Clone DVD and DVD Shrink)
    Follow the same steps above (for DVD Decrypter and DVD Architect). Open DVD Architect and select new file, and then choose no menu based DVD - only movie. Drop the demuxed file in DVDA (as well as the AC-3 file) and set your subs. Prepare the DVD but do not burn it. Do the same for each demuxed file, each one in a different folder (for instance DVD 1; DVD2; and so on). Open DVD Shrink, select one of the folders - the one you want to play the first, select re-author and so on for the others....Make sure to select the boxes that show the subs. Hit backup. Open Clone DVD, select the folder where this backup is and burn it!

    These are not permanet subs.
