    Gday,
I am considering buying a Region 2 DVD from amazon.com, but I then realised i wouldnt be able to play it here in Aus (Region 4).
If I put a region 2 dvd in my pioneer (A07XLA) will I need to change the region before I use DVD shrink to copy it region free? Or can I still read the data without changing the drive's region?

It will try to change the region. You could look at software like AnyDVD or similar to try to get around it, or consider a firmware change that removes the region coding from your drive. (Note: changes to firmware, especially the use of hacked firmware, can invalidate your warranty)

  3. Hi lgare,

You can try DVD Region+CSS Free at http://www.dvdidle.com to see the result.

DVD Region+CSS Free runs in the background to decrypt DVDs. You have nothing to do, just insert the disc and play. Simple.

so even if i just insert the disc in the drive, and don't try to play the video, i can't even copy the data files using DVD shrink without it asking me to change regions??
I wish i had a disc of another region here with me to test it...

  5. Hi lgare,

DVD Region+CSS Free also enable you to copy any region DVD with DVD Shrink. You don't need to play the DVD at first.
