I'm considering buying a stand-alone DVD burner and am confused at what the differences are between the Panasonic T2020 and the DVD EM20 and the Pioneer DVR-7000.
Does any of the above give the user the option to select which country region code they can record in?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

This is what I've read:
Panasonic DMR-T2020 - based on DVD-R/DVD-RAM
Pioneer DVR-7000 - based on DVD-R/RW
DVD EM20 - no clue
Currently, there are three DVD formats, DVD-R/DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW due to some advantanges and disadvantages one has over the other. If compatibility is the major criterion, DVD-R/RW leads the pack (I read somewhere). DVD-RAM/DVD-R and DVD+RW are good on data handling.
Probably you should read more before forking out that much money. I am a bit confused as well. As for the recorded region, maybe a dvd recorder sold in the US will automatically record in region 1 (I don't know).
