these both seem to be around the same price as far as socket 939. both run at 2.2ghz. anybody know which is better to OC. i know the 3400+ can be OC to a 3800+ without a sweat. not too sure what a pro or con would really be by picking up either one. thanks

  2. Unless I'm wrong the 3400 is Socket 754 not 939 like the 3500+ I would get the 3500+ of your board support its.

    You are right.
These three company’s offerings are priced very differently, that is why those of you who wish to acquire a Socket754 platform have something to choose from. In this article we are going to find out what the newcomer from AMD, Athlon 64 3400+, is capable of, if it will be able to become a worthy competitor to the top Intel processors, and what it actually looks against the background of the already existing AMD processors.

from what i understand 939 is better due to 754 being the cheaper option missing a few things

I may be missing something, but they don't seem to list a 3500+ in Socket 754. Your board isn't 939, right?

Specs from AMD's site. It's possible that Newegg's info is wrong. For pure natural performance, I'd go with larger cache. On the other hand, something with a smaller cache might overclock more easily, since you'll be boosting the speed on the cache too. Another thing to consider is that the 939 might have a longer upgrade path than the 754. Also consider there are other advamtages to socket 939. Check out this page...
