I want advice on whether Pioneer is a better of Choice, or Sony ?

    Thanks,

IMHO Pioneer is better for longevity and standalone compatability.

Sony used to be a brand you could rely on. I owned a Sony burner a year or so ago. I wouldn't buy another one.

The burner quit working when it was 8 months old. It took me over 3 weeks of calling tech support before I got an RMA. I sent the burner back and they sent a replacement. The replacement worked for 4 days and then had the same problem. I threw it out and bought a LiteOn.

  8. Sony doesn't make any burners anymore that I know of. Most are made by Liteon and re-badged. In my opinion, and that of many others, the 108 Pioneer clobbers the Liteon unless you want to tinker around.
Still a few bugs in the system...

I think i'm definately going for Pioneer 108.
One more thing.. is there a place i can find out which is the best Media to use for a certain Burner? For example.. right now i have an Optorite Burner, and soon i plan to buy Pioneer 108. Is there someway i can find out which is the best DVD Media to buy for particular models of a particular brand burner?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

  14. Thanks all of you folks for all your wonderful help.
I finally went ahead and got the Pioneer DVR 108 Dual Layer 16x DVD Burner and a 50 Pack if ProDisc 8x DVD-R.

I can't wait to author & burn some movies to see the results.

For now i'm using Nero 6 for my burning... if anyone has got any suggestion, i'm open.

    Thanks,

    Mickey

  18. Thanks for the input folks.

Which one is better... DVD Decrypter or Nero 6, and why?
I use DVD Decrypter for other things, i never used it for burning my DVD Movies, in fact, i didn't know i could use DVD Decrypter to burn DVD Movies. When i have authored my DVD, i get the Video_TS and Audio_TS folder on my HDD. How do i burn those to a DVD using DVD Decrypter?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

  19. With nero open up a dvd iso/uhf option and drop and drag the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files over then burn option and should work fine.
