I'm in need for about another 100 DVD-R's and I being that I prefer Ritek I figured i'd search for the best deal. Saw that newegg had them for about $39 A/R w/ shipping, & shop4tech had them for $35.10 with free shipping thanks to Bens! Seems like a hot deal for .35 per disc. Figured i'd mention it. There's a coupon code "weekly10" that you gotta use to bring the price from like $39 to $35.10 w/ shipping. I read it's good til' next week.

A lot of people here don't like Shop4tech nor do they like Ritek anymore. With Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-Rs less than .64 cents each including shipping at RIMA, I see no reason to use Ritek. For really disposable stuff I would use Prodisc.

Stay with what you like and disregard other's preferences. If they work for you and you're happy, fine. I use both Ritek and Prodisc and am OK with both.

Diamond Bar, CA – October 21, 2004 -- Advanced Media Inc. (RITEK USA) is the sole US subsidiary of the RITEK Corporation, the world’s largest optical media manufacturer. The company announced today that it has recently discovered an industry-wide problem with several Hong Kong manufacturers who are attempting to sell counterfeit RITEK branded 4X, 8X DVD-R and other manufacturer's name brands at very low under market prices. The problems relating to the counterfeit media does not affect the RIDATA branded products also manufactured by RITEK.

Advanced Media oversees the exclusive marketing and distribution of RIDATA branded products in North, Central and South America. Customers can rest assured that when purchasing RIDATA branded products, the customer is guaranteed to receive genuine high-grade optical media products manufactured by RITEK. “RIDATA brand optical discs are manufactured under the same stringent standards as the RITEK brand, featuring high recording quality and dependability. To a counterfeiter, our loyal global following of customers provides an attractive market to go after. If you see RITEK G05, G04 or G03 discs without RIDATA packaging or are considering purchasing them from an unknown reseller, please make sure the discs are genuine”, stated Andy Huang, Marketing Manager for Advanced Media (RITEK USA). “RITEK has also recently discovered that a small amount of RITEK brand media has been repackaged mixed with TYG02 identified discs and sold as RITEK products.”

RITEK and Advanced Media are both very proactive on this issue and are investigating this unfortunate situation and taking every precautionary measure available to protect customers from future counterfeited DVD’s.

“DVD discs require an extremely precise production process as well as the highest quality materials and cutting edge production technology. A counterfeiter cannot provide the precision technology or quality control processes RITEK manufacturing has. That our discs consistently achieve these high manufacturing requirements is due to the great success of the company’s research and development capabilities.” A limited lifetime warranty is also included on all RIDATA media,” added Huang.

well i'll be darn. I'm really, really glad I didn't purchase the G04's last week b/c I just read at Bens that there's an even better deal this week for the 8x G05's here:

    http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=2764&cata=1&s_cata=88

That's an awesome price for the G05's, glad I was patient. I grabbed the last 2 15 packs of the Memorex 8x DVD-R's my local Office Depot had for $8.97 each to hold me over.

  9. That press release does not = this is fake media...

Just because it is, what, ~ $5 cheaper than usual does not = fake media...

  10. Steve, I agree...just because one store has the same advertised media as another $5 cheaper does it mean that its fake.

However, some stores have shady business practices. I think SCDVD was just trying to inform us about fake ritek media being out there and one should keep our eyes open.
