Hi everyone,
Is the selectable "burn-proof" choice in DVD Decrypter actually just for burners with the buffer underrun feature of the same name, or will ticking the box enable any burner's buffer underrun protection?
Just curious,

I'm not really sure, all my drives have some version of 'burn proof'. My guess it's a feature of the burner, otherwise all burning programs would be using it and you wouldn't hear about buffer under runs. I believe it pauses the burning process to allow the buffer to catch up, and that sounds like something internal to the burner.

What it does is match the burn speed to the buffer size. So if the buffer slows to 50% capacity, then burning will slow to 50%. I think it can be used on any burner but depending on the hardware it can cause more problems then it solves. I've tried 3 different burners and only one was able to use it consistently. The rest would give me errors during burning every 3rd disk or so. Personally, I say disable it. As long as you aren't using your computer for other things while burning I don't think it really serves any useful purpose.

My Pioneer 107D throttles back nicely if I'm using a slower connection from the other machine (mapped drive). If you go below 1X transfer speed however, then BURP (buffer underrun protection) kicks in and suspends writing until the buffer fills back up.
