you need to actually look at the spindle to see if it says "MADE IN JAPAN". the local OFFICE DEPOT stores here in Honolulu, Hawaii have both "MADE IN JAPAN" & "MADE IN TAIWAN". If you're ordering online it would a crapshoot whether or not you get the "MADE IN JAPAN" spindles. The "MADE IN TAIWAN" spindles are RITEK G04 discs. That sale will be in our ad for this Sunday. We lag a week behind in sale ads.

25 TDK Taiwan, Staples, 10 bucks.

All the stores I go to, I do not think I have seen 2 spindles marked Made in Japan, no matter the brand.

By the same token, I have had absolutely no problem burning the stuff I have bought, CompUSA stuff, Memorex printables, Khypermedia, HPs, a couple 25s of Sony, and this latest TDK, plus others.

Nothing has given me consistent failures, one here or there, most of which I blame on unupdated soft-firm ware.

Some which have pissed me off as "Fails",I ran through test programs, Kprobe, and the other one I forget the name of just now, all worked and tested as well within spec for errors.

Have LO411, 811, 851 flashed to 832, NEC 2500 still v1.06, no coasters to speak of in about 400 burns, 10?, maybe.

    Cheers,

    George

I have a few trust levels, that's my issue.
    All DVD-R unless noted:

    1: Maxell, Pioneer
    2: TDK, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim/MCC
    3: Prodisc/MCC
    4: Ricoh (DVD+R), Sony
    5: Optodisc, Princo, Ritek
    6: anything else

    Those are my personal preferences.

When I'm making an archival set or a master, I need the most trusted media.

Were they made in Japan or Taiwan? I could only find Taiwan-made ones; bought two, but hadn't opened them yet.

If I were you, I would return those and head to another store.

I just went to Office Depot a few hours ago & noticed something strange...

Some of the Made in Japan ones, had little stickers on the outside just over the part that says Made in Japan & the stickers say made in Taiwan... no lie? I would say 50% of what they had in stock had the stickers.

I asked a person there maybe the assistant manager, he said that they came that way with the stickers on them & of course some didn't. He said they didn't put them on.

I bought 2 - 25 packs for $12.97 each, brought them home I checked them with Nero CD-DVD Speed selecting Disc Info & it said they were TYG01. So I'm happy so far!

Thanks for that update because the OFFICE DEPOT here in Honolulu, Hawaii will be having that sale tomorrow. We lag a week behind in the national ads for OFFICE DEPOT & OFFICE MAX.

  14. My math shows these coming out to about $52 per 100 plus tax. If I were looking for TY with no risk of what I would really get (as you have here) I would just go to Rima.com:

    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1736-1...ory_Code=TAIYO

For $55 and about $6 shipping you get exactly what you want.
Still a few bugs in the system...

Just came back from one of the local OFFICE DEPOT's here in Honolulu, Hawaii and only found 6 spindles of the MADE IN JAPAN MAXELL DVD-R. For some reason they won't be in our Sunday ad tomorrow as I had thought they would be. We usually follow a week later in the ads. A sales dude checked the ad for tomorrow and he said the PHILIP's DVD-R will be on sale. Crap! It's ok I still got a shit load of MAXELL DVD-R tucked away.

as chas0039 & I & all the others have said TY from www.rima.com is the place to go.

I went by the nearest Office Depot and all they had were +R's. I looked at the top of the media but could not see any info. I guess I should look at the packaging.
