    I'm trying to record directly to my PC through firewire from my dv cam and I was wonding if there is software to detect motion and only record that.

    There's a lot of webcam software that will do that. I don't know if it will work with a firewire camcorder. A quick google search will turn up the webcam programs.

    Hi RangerXXX,

    How about this: www.gotchanow.com

    It may / should recognise your DV cam - the only problem is if your DV cam powers down after a preset time (like 5 mins). It'll work with a webcam though...
