  1. I want to start putting my series recordings on RWs instead of pain in the but RAMs. I want to record them, then edit on the computer, then copy to DVD-R. Do I need to record them in the VR mode or the video mode, or does it matter which mode? What are good brands of discs for this recorder?

  3. Where do you get them? I can't find them where I am.

Follow the guide in the link above except that I would recommend using File mode in DVD Decrypter. If each of the recording is less than 1 GB, set the file splitting to "By File". If some of the recordings are more than 1GB, set file splitting to "None" and extract them one by one. This will make you editing easier.

I just got a DR-M10 today and I'd like to know if it uses non-standard frame sizes on everything between XP and SP (VR mode). I like VR mode but of course if it starts using weird frame sizes then it ain't worth it. Is there a list of frame sizes used with each recording mode posted anywhere? Or which ones should I avoid?

Here are the frame size for some of the recording modes in PAL. For NTSC, I think you just need to replace 576 and 288 by 480 and 240.

    Code:
    DVD-VR (DVD-RAM and DVD-RW)
    ===========================
Mode Min. Frame Size VBR(Max) Audio Bit Rate
    ---- ---- ---------- -------- -----
    XP 60 720 X 576 8820 384
    SP 120 720 X 576 8760 256
    LP 240 480 X 576 4140 256
    EP 360 352 X 288 2580 256
    FR150 150 720 X 576 6900 256
    FR190 190 544 X 576 5340 256
    FR195 195 480 X 576 5220 256
    FR480 480 352 X 288 2040 128
When using video mode, the recording mode with horizontal frame size between 720 and 352 are set to 352. When using VR mode, my personal favorite recording mode is FR195 which gives you a clearer picture, enough bit rate for the motion and reasonable long recording time.

Of course, if you want to play the disc on other DVD player, using video mode.

I guess I'm safe then. The way people were talking about the weird frame sizes on this recorder, I half expected SP to be 640 x 480 or something. I'm glad to know it isn't. (I won't be using anything below SP, as I really don't know how people can stand to watch something like LP or EP. I can't even stand SP sometimes, I can see pixelation occassionally even at that speed. I'm sticking with FR90 or less. DVDs are cheap these days so why skimp on quality?)

  8. Agreed 100% once in a great while I will go over SP by 5 or 10 minutes to make a movie fit on 1 disc, other than that I never go over SP, can't stand the quality either. Like you said, discs are far to cheap to sacrifice any quality.

Walgreens have them (at least in my aria).

  10. Don't have them where I am, websight doesn't either. The only ones I've found are 25 packs at Best Buy for $68 or something like that. I only want 5 or 10.

    Another question:

Is it possible to rip and edit a -RW with LPCM audio made on the M10, then reauthor as same? I'm not having much luck doing this.

  12. Power Producer does LPCM, never tried with an RW, but it does RAM.
